UJ LAW GRADUATE GUNNED DOWN BY BOLT PASSENGERS IN MIDRAND
He picked up passengers in Glen Austin, was shot in Noordwyk, and his iPhone last location was Nyama King in Ivory Park. The tragic story of Euston Mnguni, a young law graduate and part-time e-hailing driver, has left the Midrand community in shock and disbelief. The 28-year-old was gunned down by passengers he had picked up on the Bolt platform, leaving his family devastated and seeking answers.
Euston’s brother, Melithemba Mnguni, who is also the Gauteng provincial secretary of the E-hailing Partners Council, had warned him against driving for Bolt due to safety concerns. Melithemba had given him his own car to drive for Uber, but Euston switched to Bolt without his brother’s knowledge. On Friday, March 24, Euston picked up passengers in Glen Austin and was hijacked by them. They shot him four times and left him on the side of the road in Noordwyk.
Before the family knew that Euston was dead, they tried to locate him as he had failed to come home and was not answering his phone. His last iPhone location was traced to Nyama King in Ivory Park, but the car he was driving, a black Kia Rio sedan, is still missing.
Melithemba has appealed to the public to help find the car, which was a joint purchase by Euston and his sister. The family is desperate for answers and justice for Euston’s senseless death.
Euston had recently graduated from the University of Johannesburg with a law degree and was working as a store manager in Mpumalanga before returning to Johannesburg to do his articles. He had been driving on e-hailing platforms to make extra money while waiting for positive job offers. His brother described him as a self-driven young man with big dreams, who was taken too soon by an act of violence.
