TEMBISA HOSPITAL ARSONIST ARRESTED – KAE NEWS

A major breakthrough has been made in the Tembisa Hospital arson case, with the arrest of a 48-year-old suspect linked to the fire that destroyed the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit on Monday, 12 May 2025

The suspect, who initially posed as an informant during the early stages of the investigation, confessed to the crime during police interrogation. He has since been formally charged with arson, and has also implicated several accomplices, including a hospital security guard.

The case has been registered at the Tembisa Magistrates Court and postponed to 19 May 2025 for a formal bail hearing.

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi welcomed the arrest, commending law enforcement for their swift and decisive action.

“Destroying public infrastructure, especially a critical health facility, is nothing short of treason. The perpetrators must face the full might of the law,” said Lesufi.

He emphasized the province’s zero-tolerance approach to crime, particularly actions that undermine public safety and sabotage essential services.

The investigation is still ongoing, with police indicating that more arrests are imminent as they continue to dismantle the criminal network behind the attack.
